Unhappy Computer Registry Problem
Ok so my computer keeps crashing. I have a gateway computer, it is an LX series. it has worked fine up to now, i have had it for six months. I read somewhere that the registry could have something wrong with it. is there any way i can fix this for free?

Re: Computer Registry Problem
Wow..so many things can cause a system crash. When you say "crash", is it going to a blue screen? Can you write down the error message that you are getting?

Your registry have problems could cause crashes, but there are other factors that must be ruled out before you can consider the registry as the culprit.

Have you scanned your computer for viruses and spyware recently?

This stop code 050 is most often faulty RAM, ( a bad memory module ). So it is best to test your RAM, by booting to a bootable CD, like this; http://www.memtest86.com/ ,or look here also; http://www.bing.com/search?mkt=en-us...e%200x00000050 , and this site too; http://www.theeldergeek.com/stop_error_messages.htm , or just do a search at either Microsoft knowledge base site, or google; Stop 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - The Stop 0x50 message indicates that requested data was not in memory. The system generates an exception error when using a reference to an invalid system memory address. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause Stop 0x50 messages.

I recently download a norton upgrade. I hadn't had problems before that. maybe that could be the problem. should i uninstall it? the trial is over anyways. I plan on buying norton from a store and not from online.

Yes I agree, do try uninstalling the Norton, and then do a reboot, but also disconnect from the internet to be safe. The memory test programs can be downloaded and then burn to CD as an iso image, so if you can use a different computer for this, it is quick and easy to boot to it and run tests on the RAM. Also the memory modules can become loose, so try re-seating them firmly into their slots may help. With that stop code 050 error, the cause is most likely not from the Vista registry.

That sounds good that so far it is working. Here is a diagnostic CD disk site which you can either order the bootable CD, or download the .iso file, then burn it as an image to a CD/RW disk. Then just put the CD in your CD/DVD drive and reboot to it, and select memory tests. Both of these; http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ , or; http://www.memtest86.com/ , and look here; http://www.memtest.org/#downiso , then select the pre-compiled bootable iso in the file format as .zip.

You should use a working computer if possible to do searches for XP stop code errors such as at the Microsoft Knowledge base site, or use google, but here is that stop code error 01E here; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314451 , and look here too for help; http://www.theeldergeek.com/stop_error_messages.htm
