How to Delete Data on Defective External Hard Drive
My External Hard Drive, which I used for back up, crashed and could not be read by Windows Explorer. As it was under warranty, I was sent a replacement. I have used data recovery software to transfer most of my files to the new drive.

Now I have to return the defective drive to the manufacturer. However, the drive contains personal and confidential data, such as letters, bank details and passwords.

How can I delete the data using Windows XP SP2, or is there a third party application that will do the job?

Help would be appreciated.

Killdisc is used by the US dept of Defence http://www.killdisk.com/
Be careful how you use it, make sure you pick the correct drive to wipe
