"Found new hardware" - 100+ bits of new hardware??!
So I stuck this 4xUSB card in my PCI slot, and since on both operating systems vista and xp (the computer is dual boot) "found new hardware" continually pops up. So I go into device manager and here's what I get:

Note that the rest of that device manager is taken up by the mystery 100 devices (look at the size of the scrollbar ).

Has anybody seen anything like this before?

If getsugatenso's advice doesn't work, make sure to post the manufacturer and model of your USB card.

I notice you actually listed a quad boot (nice work by the way) with XP/Vista each in 32- and 64-bit editions. Does this happen with both the 32- and 64-bit OS? Or just one architecture flavor?

no, i think he might just have 2 OS's, just a vista and XP, i dont see why you'd want both x32 and x64 editions of the same os, it would be a bit of a waste really... unless money was not a factor in buying

[EDIT]... in which case... QUICK! WHILE HE'S NOT LOOKING!!! hahaha

I was just going by the specs listed in his computer info. He does specifically say "quad boot" with XP/Vista each with x86/x64. It may be for no more reason than just having some fun with multi-boot, or for maximum compatibility with any kind of application/driver. However I'm puzzled then why the OP said "dual boot" in the first post... but it will make a difference since some devices don't have 64-bit drivers, or the ones available are not very good.

Hi everybody. Thanks for the suggestion getsugatenso, I'll give it a try tomorrow

Just to clarify the computer is quad boot:
1. XP x64 for games (so the 4gb ram gets used)
2. XP x86 for music production (driver compatibility)
3. Vista x64 for programming (for 64-bit programming etc)
4. Vista x86 for general stuff

I have only booted up XP x86 and vista x86 since I stuck the card in (hence I described it as 'dual boot' to make this simpler). The card came from an ancient 90s machine which was running windows 2000. I just thought it was weird it shows up 100+ new devices, odd?

I'll try booting with x64 versions also tomorrow.

hmm, its strange that it wouldnt work under a x86, the only other thing i can think of is that it might be having conflicts with other installations, although that really shouldnt be a problem....

Never seen anything like that before!

Just make a small note whenever you change something on your computer, like Windows Updates or hardware changes or that kind of thing, and see if they are related to your multiplying hardware should it come back.

time to destroy that quad boot you have going and put windows 7 in replace of it all!

as for the pci slot problem, try reaseating the card, or trying a different slot..
