Exclamation Built a custom PC, won't power on.
Hey everyone. This is a first post, sorry if it's in the wrong place. I'm stressing myself out trying to solve this problem on my own, and it's even harder because I don't have any tech-savvy friends that live around me to help in person.

I recently browsed newegg.com in search of a collection of desktop parts to put together a new budget gaming rig. Ordered on Wednesday, everything came Friday. Figured it would all go together smoothly, as I researched what I was buying, got second and 3rd opinions from various internet friends, and etc, etc.

Here's the parts that I bought (I apologize for them being linked from Newegg.com):
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811156237
Power Supply (I bought this last year, still works great): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148027
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131398
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103680
RAM (bought 2, so I have 4 sticks): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134492
Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127434
CD/DVD R/RW drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118030

I also have 3 internal hard drives that have had no issues, and are capable of being powered by the PSU I own.

Well, I get everything unboxed, and put together. I'll post a step by step of what I did:

I installed the power supply into the case, but left it unplugged from everything. Then I installed the motherboard. Had some issues with placement, because the PCI cards weren't getting enough clearance, so I had to move it a couple of times. Then I placed the video card into the top most PCI express slot, and my wireless desktop card into the bottom most PCI slot. Then I mounted all 3 hard drives and the CD drive, plugged them all into the motherboard. Then I plugged my PSU into the board, the drives, and into the case fan on the back of the case.

Plugged it into the wall, and no power up. I tried unplugging it, plugging it back in, hitting the I/O switch on the back of the PSU, got nothing. The Power On wires are plugged into the right part of the motherboard, I checked, double checked, and triple checked. The power supply is 20 +4 pin, and I tried it in the board with all connectors, and then just the 20 pin connector.

I got ONE response from the system, it was laying on it's side, I hit the power button, the fan whirred for a second, then it all went dead.

I just don't know what I did wrong, and I'm just a bit annoyed that maybe I got some bad hardware, or that I actually don't know what I'm doing. I can post pictures of the inside of the case with or without everything attached if it will help. Any advice is welcome at this point.

I apologize for the long first post, but if anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also let me know if I should provide any more information, and if I can, I will. Thanks.

i have not checked the webpages for compatability - BUT often a problem is the motherboard shorting out on the case - and you said you had trouble

I would take the board out of the case and try and connect minimum system up with the board on the table (on something NON conductive - like the box
connect PSU
Motherboard
Graphics card
Harddrive
CD drive

see if it starts - if you can get into the bios

I don't deal with AMD products, but you should check the supported processor list for the board because I don't see that the processor you listed is supported by that board.

umm, i really think you should buy a new PSU, i bought my new coolermaster silent pro 500W for £66
if there is one thing i know, dont cheap out on a PSU
if your computer powers up and then powers down within the second, i'd suspect the power supply.
a trust 570w power supply i bought ended up ruining itself and became faulty within a year.

I'll try the minimum start up.

The processor type is listed as being supported by the motherboard, in the manual. The two were also bought as a combo deal.

Ok! I've got the motherboard resting the motherboard box, and I've plugged in minimal items. It powers up, but nothing happens after that. Processor fan is going, the lights on the front of the case work. I'm not getting a video signal or anything. It sounds like there is two beeps on start up, but I can't be sure because I think the system speaker is under a bunch of metal.

two beeps - need to know the bios on the motherboard
BUT .....
I think we know need someone who know the hardware to check compatability

Is that different to when it was in the case, if so, possibly something shorted out on case and may have been damaged to Mobo or PSU

I've got everything plugged in right now. Nothing going to video. Do you think this might be a RAM problem?

well the manual is http://asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=fcsXWSxnhzZE9rnR showing a AMI Bios american megatrends inc
http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm
looking at the beep codes
2 beeps = memory error - OR hardware error
as it appears twice in the list

although form the AMI site
this manual
http://www.ami.com/support/doc/AMIBI...e_List_PUB.pdf
referes to a floppy boot error - which cant be right

Try removing the PCI-e graphics card and use the onboard graphics. If that works it could be a problem with the graphics card.

Also, for my SLI capable MOBO the manual says I have to use PCIEX16 slot #1 if I only have one card (I don't see that in your MOBO manual though).

i recommend you send back those sticks of ram and get some new ones

http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/amiB2-c.html

obviously if that does not work then memory on the motherboard is the problem

if you have onboard video - use that first, before adding a new card as suggested
IF you have two sticks of ram you could just try 1 see if you can get one of the sticks to work
