Solved: Upgrading Processors
Alright, so I know quite a lot about PC hardware, but one thing I do not understand is the process of upgrading processors.

I would like to know what I need to look for so the new processor I buy is compatible with my motherboard.

Can someone explain what I need to know when looking for a new processor?

I would like to upgrade the AMD Athlon LE-1620 processor on my desktop(an E-Machines ET1161-05 :: http://www.emachines.com/products/pr...prod=ET1161-05)

and I have an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200 Processor on my laptop(an Toshiba Satellite L505-S5966 :: http://www.laptopmag.com/review/lapt...spx?mode=specs)

Could someone explain what I need to look for when looking for an upgrade to these processors?

If I wasn't being specific, for example, do I need to match the Socket Types of both processors or what?
Just an in-depth process of upgrading processors please. :]

When you are dealing with manufacturer proprietary motherboards as you are in the listed machines, ONLY the original OEM manufacturer can tell you what processors are supported by those motherboards.

Even though emachines use msi boards [among others] the board is proprietary. That is the bios is custom. The oem does not have any interest in you being able to upgrade the cpu so they very often do not release an updated bios that supports newer cpus. They would much rather just sell you a new system.

As posted above, you need to consult the oem as to what cpus their board supports.

Thanks guys. I will make sure to contact EMachines, I just need a new processor until I can get the money to build a custom machine. :]
