No Boot, No POST, No Biod, No Beeps
Got a Dell XPS 420 which won't boot. As soon as the machine is powered on up comes a flashing white cursor in the top right hand corner of the screen. No changes have been made, pc hasn't been moved and nothing is loose.
No Bios
No Post
No Beeps
Nothing!
Any ideas?

Unless you have a bad peripheral device that's stoping your PC from booting there isn't much you can do yourself unless you ahve some tech no how. Unplugg everything but the monitor and reboot. If that doesn't work you will need to take the PC to a local repair shop to be fixed.

You may just have a dead mobo. I would get it checked out or replaced under warranty.

OK, I have stripped the mobo down.
Took out HDDs - Nothing
Took out CD & DVD - Nothing
Took out card reader - Nothing
Took out RAM - Computer BEEPS with No Memory Warning Sign
Put 1 Memory Stick Back In - Goes into BIOS and POST
Tried each memory stick separately and all went into BIOS and POST.
Is this the memory which is fooked?

Last thing I can think of is to go into your bios and set it to default settings.

What is this going to achieve?

I do not have a POST card installed so I couldn't tell you. I have managed to get into Dell Diagnostics and run memory tests on all the sticks but it says everything is ok.

I am tempted to bin all four memory sticks and buy two new ones.
Wouldn't want to waste money and find out its the board though.
I can't even replace the board because Dell fit BTX boards, b*st*rds.

Dell thinks you have diagnostic lights, and I've never heard of needing a Post card to use them.
