Question DVB-T TV Tuner problems...
Hey guys and girls

I got my first TV Card yesterday, it's a "KWorld PlusTV Dual DVB-T USB 399U". I followed the instructions, installed the latest drivers and software, but when it came to scanning for channels, it found none.

I tried it on two of my computers running XP Pro SP3 with the same result, but when I tried it on my sister's Vista laptop it worked perfectly. So there must be some sort of XP issue....

The Kworld website's only suggestion on fixing the problem of finding no channels is to adjust your aerial :/ So... no help there.

Do you guys have any ideas? I don't know what else I can do, that's why I come here, lol. If you have no ideas, I'll be stumped, and following no major revelation in my sleep I'll have to return it and find a replacement. I'd love to not have to do that though, as this is perfect for my needs and within my low budget.

Thanks!

I hope nobody minds me bumping the thread, it's been pushed down to page 4 after many dozens of other threads, and although it's been viewed a lot nobody seems to have any ideas. Maybe someone will see it now who didn't see it before? I hope....

If nobody can help in another day or two I'll just have to bring the dongle back to the shop and find another one, which is a defeat, and would really suck.

Any help is very greatly appreciated, it really is

A few days later, and back to page 4 This is the first time I've come here and nobody's been able to help. Oh well.

I guess I'll have to give up, and find a dual DVB-T USB dongle that's both compatible with my system and software, and also nice and cheap like this one was.....

I've not had a chance to take the thing back yet, so I thought I'd come back to see if anyone has ideas this week?

It's really frustrating, the dongle works perfectly on my sister's Vista laptop, but won't work whatsoever on any of my XP machines....

Does the DVB-T recognized in Device Manager? It should be under Sound, video and game controllers as "AF9015 BDA Device".

If you end up returning it as defective, I can recommend another. I have a Hauppauge HVR-1950 http://www.hauppauge.com/site/produc...a_hvr1950.html
I have used it with both Windows XP and 7.

Yes it's recognised and seems to be working fine.... :S

Your suggested device is not a DVB-T device for the UK, and also unfortunately costs about three times as much as my original (the cheaper the better, I don't have a lot of money to spend... lol), but many thanks for taking the time to look it up and suggest it all the same

I also need to make sure that whatever I end up with will be fully compatible with Mediaportal (the one that doesn't work for me was recommended by a Mediaportal user), as that's the software I'll be using.

Sorry I didn't notice you are in the UK, so I agree an NTSC tuner won't work there. Good luck scanning for channels. I had the same trouble with a Pinnacle USB unit for my sons Mac and ended up returning it.

I wish it were as simple as good reception. We have fine reception though, as evidenced by the dongle working perfectly on my sister's Vista machine.

Oh woe is me, I guess I'll just have to return it and seek out a replacement....thanks anyway!

You need Windows Media Centre installed, according to Google...

Hang on a second....I just noticed that this dongle seems to be connected with my loss of internet availability (I wasn't using the internet on the machine much at the time so I hadn't noticed).

So I went to my Network Connections, and there's a new one with the description Local Area Connection 2 "Microsoft TV/Video Connection". It says I'm not allowed to disable it, and it's taking priority stopping my real internet connection from doing it's job. I went into it's properties and fiddled, and now my real internet connection takes priority again, but still....

It gives no details other than being connected at 30 Mbps, and disconnecting the dongle does not change its status. It is also not listed under Network Adapters in the Device Manager, but it does appear under Sound, Video and Game Controllers as "AF9015 BDA Device" as I confirmed earlier.

Could this strangeness be related to why the dongle is not finding any stations?

------------

And kiwiguy, could you link me to the page from Google that gives that information? The box I have says it supports XP MCE, but also primarily says it's compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7 (unless I'm reading it wrong, though I don't see how).

I installed MediaPortal and an older version of the driver I got off someone onto my a fresh install of XP SP3 that I have on a new PC, and it worked perfectly I guess the solution then is to reinstall XP onto the machine I actually want to use the dongle on, and hope that I don't unwittingly reinstall whatever was causing the problem in the first place.

I'll let you know how it turns out
