Question laptop shuts down
I bought a refurbished Dell Latitude D610 laptop. It seemed to work ok for about a month then it started randomly shutting down. It did that a few times and then it would not start up anymore. When I turned it on, the green padlock light would flash 9 times and then the laptop would shut down. I tried removing the battery for a while but nothing worked. For the heck of it, I removed the little momory board and it started up and it runs.. slow but it runs. When I put the memory board back in, it goes back to not starting up. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks! Joey

Memory board? Do you mean the RAM stick?

That could be what it's called, I don't know. You remove the plate on back of the laptop and take it out. It has one side full of gold connectors and 2 flat black strips on it. The other side has 4 flat black little blocks and one real tiny black block. There is a sticker on the one side which reads: hynix 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-4200S-444-12 When you remove it from the compartment, this is what it says inside the compartmentDR2 ONLY DIMM B
I hope this information helps you. Thanks. Joey

It definitely sounds like the ram chip you removed is bad so if you want to speed up your laptop replace it. Try and get the same chip if at all possible because ram can be very touchy.

As Catlady13 said..

Your RAM is bad. Replace is with DDR-2 533 MHZ memory and you will be good to go.
