Having trouble finding video & chipset drivers that work
I have an HP/Compaq NC6000 running Windows XP Pro with SP3. I went to the HP site and downloaded all the drivers listed on their site for this laptop. Problem is the only driver that works is the modem driver. Absolutely no other driver seems to be for the hardware in this system.

I installed the chipset driver listed by HP for this computer and I am still getting Device Manager showing something is wrong with "Base System Device", the card reader. If the chipset driver were correct, the Base System Device would not be having a problem (I think).

Everest identifies the video controller as follows:

ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 (M10/M11) Video Adapter
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 (M10/M11) 3D Accelerator

The driver from the HP site does not work and isn't even an ATI driver.

I went to this page, downloaded the proper driver and installed it; but, I'm still showing no display driver in device manager.

After downloading the drivers from HP listed for this system and finding they don't work, I did a Google search for video drivers, limiting my search to HP.com. I found several others listed at different HP pages, all different but all supposedly for this laptop's video.

I loaded three of them with no success but the fourth one did.

I'm still working on the chipset driver. If I load the correct chipset driver, it is my understanding this "Base System Device" problem in Device Manager should go away.

Thanks but that is the page I mentioned in my first post from which no drivers except the modem work. It is as if it is a bogus page.

Supposedly the machine uses a 855PM chipset.

Unless you have already done it, the first thing I would do is I would go to Intel and download and install the 855PM driver.

If you don't have the correct chipset driver installed, the board can't configure the other drivers.

Have you tried this Texas Instruments Card Bus driver from the HP website: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...tem=ob-24461-1

The Texas Instruments driver should extra to a folder called: sp27957
Have you tried to update the driver from Device Manager and pointing it to that folder or one of the sub folders in the sp27957 folder that contains the .inf files?
