Desparately need link for Canon installation software.
I've installed Windows 7 Pro and I have an old Canon Pixma ip4000 printer.
But I don't have the install disc.
The only thing I've found at the Canon support download site was a driver and some manuals.
I installed the driver but W7 does not see the printer.
There is no Canon software on this pc.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

All you need is the driver for the printer to work. The software is just extra software to organize, edit, and print photos, but its not required.

It also seems Windows 7 has a driver included for the IP4000 or it available as an optional update from Windows Update as the Canon site only lists a driver add-on module and PhotoPrint EX software.

Have you checked Device Manager for any devices with errors, or any unknown devices under the USB section? Also does it list any printers under Devices & Printers in the Control Panel?

Triple6,
Thanks for your help.
There was a driver that I eventually found at Canon but it was the wrong one even though it's for W7.
Using the steps you gave me I was able to get the right driver from Windows Update.
W7 sees and recognizes the printer as the default printer but when I do a test print it fails. Also fails trying to print from Control+P
I can here the gears in the printer moving as they always do when getting ready to print.
But I am unable to print.
I have ink and paper so that's not the problem.
Any suggestions would help.
I already tried the troubleshooter and got nowhere.
Thanks.

So do you get an error when you try to print? Does it print out a blank page?

Did you have the printer already connected when you installed the driver? My Canon requires you to wait to plug in the printer after the driver is installed.

When I try to print I get nothing but a pop up stating that the printer is not responding.
I tried re-installing the driver with the printer unplugged but it makes no difference.
This printer worked with XP and should work now due to the updated driver.
There is paper and ink.
Thanks.

FIXED!!!!

Thanks for your help.
Dustyjay sent me in the right direction.
I removed the drivers and all programs related to Canon with the printer unplugged from the pc.
Rebooted the pc and plugged the printer into the usb.
MS installed new drivers and controls and now it works.
