fix it for me section dont want to work and the other one i am afraid to use because This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. so i am lost.i have updated vista anyways..

Well these fixes usually require editing or modifying the registry. You can try the Restore Missing CD Drives fix from this site: http://www.aumha.org/regfiles.php

Not sure why the send link doe snot work for you. But here's anoth site that has the direct link to the download file: http://www.danieltmurphy.com/cd-driv...indows-xp-fix/

But on the first link it does give you step by step instructions on what you have to do. All these fixes relate to the registry so one way or another will be modifiing the registry.

Have you ever had your CD drive disappear from the explorer window and no matter what you did you couldn’t get it back. Then if you go into Device Manager you notice that it is saying your CD drive has an invalid drive? Only to search and find there are no specific drivers for you to update? Well if you have like I recently did download this little zip file and then run the registry file to clean out the issue. It seems it comes down to a registry hack to fix this issue and it is pretty common in Windows XP.
I HAVE VISTA AND DEVICE MANAGER DO NOT SEE THE DRIVER...??:/
