Failure on Boot
I'm in the process of building a new PC and have come across some trouble getting it to boot up. When I power it on, it powers up and appears to begin to load and then I get one long beep followed by three short beeps coming from the PC speaker. The basic specs of the PC are:
Intel Core 2 Quad Processer 2.4 GHz
ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard
GeForce 7800 GT videocard

I have two older IDE HDD (not sure of the size but I can find out if necessary), once designated master and the other slave. I have tried starting up the PC with only the master attached, with only the slave attached, and with both attached.

Any help diagnosing this would be greatly appreciated. If more info is needed let me know.

can you get into the bios tosee the make of bios as that will help identify what problem the bios is telling you by those bleeps

otherwise i'll see if i can find out by the motherboard

Try googling the beep code to see if its a common one. That will help you determine the problem. Alternatively, a POST card will help you identify the problematic hardware almost immediately (they're fairly cheap I'd imagine). Could be any one of the components, or indeed, incompatibility between 2 or more. Check the specs of your hardware again, do a little more research into what the beep codes might mean and post back to us.

The alternative to the above is a lengthy process but could help you identify where your hardware is going wrong (which is what it sounds like to me), and thats simply to replace, one-by-one, each component with another, known working one (e.g. your 7800 GFX with another GFX) and see if the problem disappears.

I googled ASUS motherboard beep codes, and from what I found it seems like it is a videocard problem or video RAM problem. I'll trying switching out videocards and keep you posted on what happens. Thanks guys.
