Sata Hard Drive Nightmare
Hello Everyone,

I have come across a problem I have never encountered before; I have an Emachines T5224 with a SATA hard drive for which I need drivers. The drive is a WD2500JS 250GB SATA II (7200rpm, 8MB cache).

Research tells me that the drivers come from the motherboard manufacturer; Emachines won't help because they only support Vista on this machine (Vista is a nightmare and I want to instal XP).

The only info I have been able to find on the motherboard is off their website regarding the chipset: Intel® 945G DH (Viiv™)

I will deeply appreciate any help anyone can offer me.

Thanks in advance,

Albert

Surely you just need sata driver for the drive ?

Try
http://www.bioticaindia.com/wd2500js.html

F6 when installing XP -then point it to downloaded & unpacked driver.

Links aren't working
That's my logic as well but the links you gave do not appear to be working; they say to provide an email and they will send a link to download - I've tried two emails but no link.

Is there an alternate download site?

Thank you for your assistance.

Can you really not find a driver for it ?

WD own site probably best.

I will search for you in a bit if you still cannot find.

EDIT: Hang on a minute.
You need a sata driver for the sata controller on the mobo, surely ?

Check out this thread esp last post.

Here is the latest sata driver (floppy) from Intel for your chipset

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...Name=&lang=eng

Unzip and copy All the files to a floppy diskette for F6 installation during XP setup

They don't work
I downloaded the chipset drivers but they are not recognized during the F6 installation. it's as if the computer doesn't see them.

Any other ideas? There is no help to be found at the Western Digital website. Also, the bios setting modifications did not work for me either.

I need this file but can't find it anywhere; the link in the above post doesn't work either.

What kind of floppy drive are you using?

The driver for the hard drive (which you don't need) is different than the Sata driver (which you need)

If you are trying to install the SATA driver with a USB floppy drive on Windows XP there are only 3 USB external floppy drives you can use. They are;

The following USB floppy disk drives are included in the Txtsetup.sif file and are therefore supported for use during Windows XP installation:

Plug and Play ID USB floppy disk drive model
USB\VID_03EE&PID_6901 Mitsumi
USB\VID_057B&PID_0000 Y-E Data; Sony part number 09K9835
USB\VID_0644&PID_0000 TEAC; IBM option part number 27L4226, FRU 05K9283

The following USB floppy disk drives are not included in the Txtsetup.sif file and therefore are not supported during Windows XP installation:

Plug and Play ID USB floppy disk drive model
USB\VID_03F0 &PID_2001 HP
USB\VID_054C &PID_002C Sony
USB\VID_057B &PID_0001 Y-E Data
USB\VID_0409 &PID_0040 NEC
USB\VID_0424 &PID_0FDC SMSC

Did you check out the link I gave you in my last post ?

Quote:
OK - In answer to my own question - this is what I did:

-Hit DEL during startup, go into BIOS
-Go to Advanced -> Drive Configuration -> ATA/IDE Mode -> Choose "Legacy"
-Save and Exit
-During restart you might see a "Internal Error (9) HARDWARE_UNSUPPORTED" - Ignore this during startup
-With WinXP Install CD in bootable drive, install XP as you normally would (Your drive should now be visible

Standard Internal Floppy drive
I am using a regular, internal floppy drive connected with FDD cable to the motherboard. I hit F6 without incident followed by "S" to instal the files from the floppy - it just keeps telling me to put in the manufacturer's floppy and hit enter; over and over again. All files were extracted without any issues. Tomorrow I will bring another floppy drive in case the one I was using is bad.

I did look at that post and followed its instructions - switching it to "Legacy" but that solution did not work for me.

Search for software is a no go.
All I found is a diagram of the motherboard with some info:

http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERB...06158Rmv.shtml

Surely there must be a working download somewhere with the SATA drivers??? Emachines is no help - the Intel site isn't very promising either. All this complicated by my not being sure of what I need.
