Solved: CPU Stability Test
I just got a core 2 quad Q8400 yorkfield 2.66ghz processor, I have overclocked it to 3.0ghz and I want to know what is the best way to test stability. It would really suck if I burnt up a brand new processor that I just paid $180 for. I am a first time overclocker here so some help would be greatly appreciated.

I think overclocking is not a good idea because it runs hardware out of spec which can damage your CPU. But if you want to test it, Prime95 is a good utility: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103 I have used it before to test hardware that was not overclocked.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible if it fries your CPU.

As a 1st time overclocker, why risk frying a new $180 new CPU, I know I wouldnt.
If you are going to persist in your overclocking I hope you have upgraded your cooling devices to cope.

Thanks for the advice. I ran the program and the test was successful, completely stable. I have had this processor overclokced for a good couple of weeks now and I have not had any problems. I have the stock intel heatsink right now but my case has very good airflow so it stays cool even when the processor is getty fully used.
