Angry Solved: HP DV1000 Keyboard issues
First off, thanks for taking the time to read this post. I have had quite a few issues with this laptop. A few years ago one of my ram modules somehow stopped working. Not that I have all the appropriate diagnostic tools, but I was not able to figure out exactly what happened. I replaced that with two new modules bringing the total memory up to 1.5gb. Just last year the motherboard fried, after a very stressful three and a half hours I managed to get a new one put in. After which I started having issues with the keyboard on the laptop. every key works, except for the h, j, m, n, u, y, 6, and 7 keys. I have researched for the last two days trying to figure out what is going on with it. I have also tried replacing the keyboard with a new replacement part to no avail. PLEASE HELP!! Thanks again.

Could be a fault with the keyboard ribbon after being reinserted following the Mboard change.

Before checking that, do you have an external (standard PC) keyboard you could connect to a USB port or PS/2 port on the laptop? This will allow you to see whether it is a fault on the Mboard or the laptop keyboard.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have checked the ribbon cable and actually replaced the keyboard all together. I also have hooked up an external keyboard and everything worked fine. I'm starting to wonder if it could be a bad connection between a sector of the ribbon and the mobo hook up. That would be the only real reason only a portion of the keys on both keyboards aren't working, to my knowledge anyway.

Ok, so I figured out the issue. And I'm rather embarrassed to say, but it was only a dirty contact. Thank you for your help.
