Solved: Downloading Files to Portable Flash Drive
I travel now and then and sometimes I download things onto my portable flash drive from the computer in the business center of a hotel. When I do this, is there a trace of this download that is recoverable on the hotel's computer? Because the information is of a financial nature, I would like to think that the information does not end up on the hotel's computer's hard drive and only on my flash drive. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks.

The actual data is not on the computer if the file was downloaded directly to the flash drive. But the browser history could certainly be stored unless you're manually clearing it before you leave.

I hope the location from where you dowloaded the financial data/document needs a username and password to access the site/location, or else, someone looking at the URL logs of the network equipment or the PC you used would also be able to access the same site and data therein. Lets also hope that the PC didnt save any username and passwords too.

Thumbs up Thanks for the info
Thanks for the information. I travel with my laptop, so I'll pass along the concerns with the id/password harvesting that may be on the hotel computer. I have already cautioned my friend to clear the history when he is finished with his computer, simply as a matter of habit, regardless if he typed in anything that could reveal his identity. Thanks again!
