Two Towers, One Monitor - DVI / VGA input changing issues
I've got two towers and one monitor. I acquired the second tower second-hand and wanted to poke around on it while still being able to access my own tower. Since my monitor has both a DVI and VGA connection, I kept my original tower connected via DVI and connected the second tower via VGA.

It all works fine until I try and switch back to DVI input; the screen just goes blank, and the only monitor button that visibly does anything is the power button. I can switch back to VGA input when a little dialogue box pops up asking which input to use after I restart the monitor. The only way I'm able to get back to DVI input is by restarting my computer after unplugging everything from the monitor and then re-plugging the DVI and power cables.

It's probably worth noting that I've had minor unrelated issues that may very well originate from my video card and/or motherboard, but I have no idea if they have anything to do with this current issue.

I'd really really like to be able to just simply switch back and forth between both inputs through my monitor's settings. Is it even possible?

Monitor: Hanns G HX191D

Original tower: (Everything here is probably between 3-6 years old)
- OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 x32
- Motherboard: Asus A7V8X Socket A
- RAM: 768MB DDR-400 SDRAM
- Video Card: ATi Radeon 9250
- Power supply: No idea
- HD 1: 250 gigs
- HD 2: 40 gigs
- Everything else: No idea

Second tower:
- OS: Windows 2000 Professional
- HD: 20 gigs
- Everything else: No idea

This doesnt really answer your question but have you considered a KVM? seems like it would save you alot of trouble, and there not all that expensive now. As for your problem switching back and forth are both monitors using the same refresh rate?

I could get a hard drive enclosure for cheaper and it'd serve roughly the same purpose for me, but I'm trying to do this without spending anything.

Both monitors? The thread subject is Two Towers, One Monitor
