laptop/mobile hard drive, what is this?
Ok, all. Here is the story. A friend wanted me to upgrade his laptop, so I'm going to do it. So, I remove the hard drive, and it has a connector I'm not familiar with.....check the pics...

what kind of drive is this, and can I still get one somewhere?
forgive the pic quality, I took it with my blackberry, and I'm a lil shaky...

Looks like a standard slide-in connector used on many laptop boards.
Since the product tag is unreadable and you did not mention the make and model of the laptop, I doubt if any one can help ypu.

Information I could find about the hard drives in that Compaq model.

80.0GB, 60GB, or 40GB ATA-100 EIDE hard drive - 5400 RPM 2.5in form factor 9.5mm height

Compaq Part Numbers:
80GB - 377651-001
60GB - 375980-001

Hard to tell from the pics, but I suspect the socket strip pulls off exposing the standard drive pins, which you would need to put back on the replacement SATA drive
