Dell Vostro 1700 problem
Hello

I've had a problem with my Dell Vostro 1700 for about a year now and have tried numerous things to fix it.

Basically, while playing a game, i suddenly get a drop in frame rate to about 2 frames per second, i.e. really slow. Upon exiting the game, the whole computer is running slowly. Everything from loading up my computer to opening a word document is slow. Sometimes restarting it gets it back up to running at normal speed, but sometimes it seems to stay slow, even when starting up (takes a long time to load windows etc).

Sometimes this slowdown effect occurs a few minutes into a game, and sometimes it happens an hour later or not at all. Further to this, it even (althought rarely) happens when i'm just on the desktop not doing much.

I've run the onboard diagnostic tools, but they report that everything is running without a problem. I'm pretty certain that its not a software problem as that would not affect windows loading up slowly.

Sometimes, the problem stop appearing for a couple of months, but then all of a sudden it will re-appear. Have absolutley no idea what it is and i feel i have tried everything.

If someone could lend me any advice as to what else to try then that would be great.

My pc Specs:
Dell Vostro 1700 INtel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4 Ghz, 3.0Gb RAM, NVidia GeForce 8600M GT

Cheers
Vince
