Any hope to boot from a USB drive in old HP notebook
I've read through many of the threads reagarding USB booting. Bottom line seems to be that if the BIOS supports it, then it will work for you.

But what is not quite yet clear to me is whether -my- BIOS will support it.

HP notebook xh136, PhoenixBIOS GC.M1.63

As far as I can determine, I have the latest BIOS. When I go t the Boot menu, it only lists
1. CD-ROM/DVD drive
2. Hard Drive
3. Floppy Drive

Am I correct in saying that since USB is not listed, then it will not be possible to ever use a USB drive to boot from on this computer?

Or will the USB not show up in that list unless a bootable USB drive is actually plugged in and ready to go?

I have a Lexar SecureII 2GB USB drive that I had reformatted intending to use it on this laptop with Puppy Liux. But it doesn't look like my good intentions are going to get me anywhere.

Thoughts?

USB or Other bootable device should already be there in the list. If not, possibly a BIOS update would add it but I would say the chances are not great.
