Computer Restarting Woes
Hello, my friends computer has been restarting randomly when he plays games. Using several temperature sensor programs I have discovered that it is most likely an overheating problem.

The problem is that when using PC Wizard, the temperature of one thing is at 84 degrees celsius, and that is labeled Aux/Power (and I have no idea what that is). When playing games this jumps up to about 114 degrees before it shuts down. I have ruled out the video card for sure, and I don't think it's the CPU so my conclusion was that it was just a bad sensor.

However if it was a bad sensor then playing games shouldn't effect it right? If anyone has any ideas as to what could be overheating or causing the restarts I would appreciate it.

Is this a deskptop or a laptop? If it is a overheating issue, check the fans of the processor most common of overheating is not enough ventillation or failing fan.

Thanks for the reply.

It's a desktop. The fans are all working, even added several.

None of the temp monitors I used reported that the CPU was the thing overheating, that was what I had first suspected. I also tried using the onboard video card and removed the PCI-e one, still had the insane temperature on that Aux/Power option.

Video Card is 8600gt, AMD processor, other specs I don't know off the top of my head. I really should know these since im the one who built it for him.

I'll get them as soon as I can, but as for the games that cause restarting mostly L4D and TF2... but I believe it happens whenever he is in a graphically intensive game.

I am starting to think that this odd temperature that fluctuates is just a glitch, and that maybe the video card is the thing overheating. Ill have him swap it out and see if that works.

What is the settings when playing the games? If the games are set too high then it is possible that the video card is unable to handle them and tends to crash or restart. I suggest to lower the settings of the game, try it first on the lowest settings then gradually increase until you get again the restart issue.

Hey, sorry I haven't posted in a while.

Anyways, I attempted to removee the video card and just use the integrated card, restarting continued. It has restarted with Supreme Commander, and Team Fortress 2. I have set the settings to the lowest they will go but the restarting persists.

Nope, just restarts and boots back into Windows. I really have no idea what this could be, I like to think I have a fairly good ability to solve computer problems but this one im just lost on. Maybe it's a problem with the motherboard?

Test each one of the RAM if the computer has more than 1 memory dimm, use only a single RAM on the computer to test if the memory is working.
