Backing-up, External enclosure, RAID , Help!!!!
We have 4 desk-Tops & 2 Laptops running on my families home network. Two small Business, Kids School-work & I am a armature Photog. Keeping everything backed-up has been a juggling act, & lately a bit of a Joke.

Until now I have been running a two single Antec eSata MX-1, external's containing single 500.G drives for everyone too use. Recently on completion of backing 1 of these drives up it “Failed”, though I got lucky not losing any information, the failure scared me enough to decide too purchase an external RAID enclosure.

My thought was to buy a 4 bay enclosure but only install two (for now) , 1.5 Gig drives & run them in RAID Mirroring Mode.

I purchased:
Mediasonic HF2-SU2S2 Pro Box 4-BAY 3.5IN SATA Drive Enclosure USB2.0 eSATA Black
Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM

Everything arrived today, & I’ve bought the wrong enclosure, everything is the same as the other enclosure its just Not RAID. I should have got the > [Mediasonic HFR2-S3B Pro Raid Box 4 Bay Raid 0/1/3/5/10 Enclosure]

Is there any way of “Reasonably” using what I’ve got to mirror the two drives for backing-up purposes or should I just sell off & order the correct enclosure, ??? I can’t believe I screwed up . . . Again!!
The drives look good !!!
Thanks, Your thoughts are much appreciated,
Moe

I would just use a single drive and make an image file of each system. Use acronis true image for this task. There are other imaging apps however acronis is like snap-on tools; the standard by which others are judged.

BTW no backup plan is worth anything until you validate your ability to restore the backup. It does you no good to have an image file that you cannot restore.
