Solved: Processor Problem
I have an Asus P5KPL-VM Motherboard and I just got a Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66ghz processor for it. When I go into the bios it says the processor only has 2 cores, but when I go into windows it recognizes all four cores at it performs perfectly. I am wondering if this is or will become a problem, or if I should just ignore it.

Does the motherboard have the latest bios installed?

Looks like you need bios version 0904 to support the Q6600 correctly, I used this page to find out what bios is needed for what processor on which board.

http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/c...Language=en-us

Use "CPU Search using" at the top, select Motherboard>Socket 775>PK5PL-VM hit OK

Then find your CPU in the list, then click "go" to the right of it, it will take you to the bios and version needed to support that CPU correctly.

If it works, I think It could be ignored, a bios flash is risky business and should only be done to solve a real problem, I don't see this as one myself..

I already have the 0904 bios update. I had to get it so the processor would even work at all. Also, the processor I have is a Q8400 not a Q6600. I guess I should just ignore it for now.

Sorry, I don't see the Q8400 as being supported for that motherboard regardess of bios version.

It goes from the Q8200 to the Q9300.

At least it gets past the post screen, what luck.

I know that it says it doesn't support it, but I am using the processor right now on that motherboard and all four cores are recognized and running perfectly. I actually have it overclocked to 3ghz and it runs very stable.

I don't blame you for wanting one. They are only $180 and you get 4 cores and good overclocking. I have also heard of people getting this processor to hit 3.5ghz with the right motherboard and cooling. So I should probably just ignore this problem then, huh?

Since there is nothing you can do about it, ignore it. Like I said you are lucky the bios will even post with an unsupported processor, so count your blessings!
