Please help pc wont power up
I have an Acer Revo R3600 but it will not power up. I have tried using a working power chord but nothing happens when i try to switch on the pc. However I do hear a quiet hissing/high pitched sound from the power chord when it is plugged in to the PC but this does not happen with my working PC.

please help as i need it up and running again.

Thank you

Sounds like you have a bad power supply whether its the power coming into it or the power going out of it to the mobo, dont suppose you have a power supply tester or another psu laying around do you?

blown capaciter on the mobo possibly? run your finger over the top of the capaciters on the motherboard and see if any are blown then will be buldging upwards you will feel this would indicate a problem with the mobo.

This is usually caused by such things as a power spike

So a blown capacitor will be larger than normal healthy ones? If it is a capaciter, how will i fix it?

yes it will be and as far as I know it means a trip to get a new mobo unless you really know how to change one and solder a new one back on and stuff I would search google but with the price of mobos wouldnt recommend trying to fix it.

OK, I am wondering how you tested it with a known good pw supply? When I do a search, that comes up as a netbook. How did you swap in a good psu?

By power supply I mean I used a mains adaptor that is working with another similar pc.

@computerguy is mobo a motherboard?

That is NOT a pw supply. Your pw supply is located on the mb on your laptop. What your are referring to is an AC adapter/battery charger.

Just to be clear, the power supply is an internal component of a PC and NOT the cable that plugs the PC into the mains.

I also had a totally dead PC recently, and for me it was a case of simple going to the shop, buying a new power supply, and then spending 20 minutes changing them over. Depending on your confidence with technical matters and the design of your machine this may or may not be practical for you.

Remove the battery and try switching on your computer.

I'm afraid you will have to RMA your computer to be honest. Since netbook hardware is usually manufacturer specific and usually integrated on the motherboard it will be difficult to change/fix something on your own.

If your netbook is new, remember that opening it may void the warranty.

I am not at all confident with changing the power supply, I dont even know where it is. However if I knew what to change then I would have a go

@Mosquito555 what is RMA? The PC is out of warranty already so I dont mind trying to fix this myself if possible, just need a little inspiration and direction

THANKS
