Raid o Problem
Hi there, Im new here and to custom computing in general. I just put my system together and entered the bios, I set the first disk priority to cd-rom as I should, I then went and changed the my hdd config to raid and saved and exited. Upon reboot, I didnt see an option to enter into the raid configuration where you select the drives you want to set to raid o, and instead, the system just booted up the windows 7 disk and installed it. My computer seems to be working fine but I dont think Im in Raid o because of what happened. Also I have my 2 x Velociraptors connected to the Red Sata ports on my mobo, Ive since heard this make sit slower or something and that they are not controlled by the southbridge but I suppose I could switch them around, whatever. Since this is my first time doing all this, could someone give me some advice on how to proceed here, in order to ensure I get Raid o, its obvious Ill probably have to re-install windows and reset the bios but some advice would help a lot because Im not confident in what Im doing?!?

exact motherboard model and revision, should be printed on the mobo itself.

Most of the time with raid enabled and 2 drives connected, you have to use a keystroke to enter the raid config utility after the initial bios post. There should be a short splash screen telling you this, maybe it goes by too fast and you missed it.

Yes you can, but it will make the current installation unbootable, but that does not matter if you are going to reinstall to a raid array.
If you want to use Raid, you will have to reinstall.

Make the bios change, use the keystrokes to enter the raid config, add the drives to a raid 1 or 0, it will wipe the drives of any data when you do this. Once the raid array is set up, restart the PC and install the OS.

Consult the owners manual for specifics.

Raid 1 = Mirror, this is best for data protection, if one drive fails, it will boot and continue to run on the other drive, replace the failed drive and rebuilt the array.

Raid 0 = Performance with absolutely no data protection, if one drive fails you lose all data on both drives.

Thanks Mumbodog, I think uninstalling windows is probably harder than just doing it without bothering. It will be erased anyway, right? Thanks again.

You can't really "uninstall' Windows, the raid configuration will wipe all data on both drives in an instant.
