Post Solved: Dell e1505, RAM limit extended with Win7?
I recently upgraded my Dell E1505 laptop to Windows 7 (32Bit) and I was wondering if the old 2GB RAM limit with XP changed to 3GB for Windows 7? Maybe I can upgrade a little more!

No, the limitation of the memory is base on the supported of the motherboard. If your motherboard can only support a max of 2GB it will not change even if you change OS.

I think you are mixing things up.

Your motherboard might support only 2GB or RAM, but any 32 bit operating system can only use a max of 2^32 or roughly 4GB or RAM. So both Vista, 7, XP, or Linux 32 bit can only use 4GB, assuming your motherboard can support that much.

So, how do I find how much RAM my motherboard can support?

I searched here:

http://www.intel.com/products/notebo...m-overview.htm

and it says:

"...up to 4GB memory addressability..."

Is this what I'm looking for?

The specs for your motherboard says 2GB limit: http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...n/om/specs.htm

So no you can't have more. It is a hardware limitation that is not determined by what operating system you are running.

But in my experience, 2 GB is plenty for just about anything I do with my computers.
