It has a 4650 gaming GPU included. It can play games like UT3.

It's a good price for such a system. If you want the gaming abilities... get it. Strip out of crapware it comes with (like many companies - but Hpaq & Acer are the worst).

If you want quality... buy a ThinkPad... but most don't have gaming graphics. The SL500 starts at about $650 and has pretty good features. A T series would be about $800.

This IdeaPad is about $828 with simular specs... you'd get it in about 7~10 days (even if they say 2 weeks) http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/c...D1A42981E9AFA8

The GT240 is better than the ATI 4650. Get the Intel Wifi 5100 upgrade (better Wifi). with 3GB and 320 GB HD & 2.2Ghz CPU = $828... most likely free shipping. If you hunt for an ecoupon, you may save another $50~100. They had a promotion on one of their notebooks that knocked off $350. Use google or use www.thinkpadtoday.com to find deals and reviews.

If you don't need gaming but want performance and toughness... SL500 or T500.

yes it can PLAY UT3 but not like GAME with the game UT3 is to advanced for 4650 but , of course it depends all on the resolution, even at 12xxX800 - 1024 i doubt it will give a good FPS at higher settings....

For a $750~850 notebook, its above avg onboard graphics. Its not a $1100~2500 gaming notebook. Hence, I asked.

Considering that UT will play good on a 7600GT (30fps) in 1920x1200, that is about the performance of a ATI 4650. The notebook is 1280x~~~~ And lets not get started on Crysis. But it may not all matter.

My desktop has the gaming card... my ThinkPad has crappy intel graphics. I had a choice for a gaming (lite) notebook or a workhorse... I took the horse. I don't need to game on it.

You are a big lier my old HIS 4670 (OC) couldn't max out UT3 in 1920x1080 but runned it fine at 1680x1050....
4650 has ddr2 that is really slow and even if it has 1 gb it has a 128 or a 64 bit bus that actually sucks for more memory then 256 mb in ddr2, also you have almost no OC capabilities in a laptop.

er?? Calling people liars over your issues is not cool and shows your age. I still have my 512mb 4670, and I still PLAY UT3 in 1920x1200 (as ALL my games, except Crysis) in MAX details and I typically get 40~65fps. I think AA is off... but oh well. Same for Gears of War and HAWXz.

And before that, I played UT3 with a 7600GT in 1920x1200 with MEDIUM details for about 30fps.

- Again, wait for the OP to respond as I had already asked what he needs the notebook to do will help determine if its good enough for the job.

Thank you both for your responses. I was planning on getting an inexpensive laptop just to surf the internet basically. Then I saw for a few hundred dollars more I could do actual work on there using Adobe CS4 and possibly play games.

I checked out the HP store and spec'ed out the same laptop and it was at least $300 more then what they are selling it for on newegg.

It is definitely in my price range on newegg.

Thanks for the idea pad link. It is good to know what else is out there.

Thanks!
