Sony Vaio - Faulty Lid Switch
The Sony Vaio VGN FE21H io have seems to have has a faulty lid switch which is causing the inverter to power off the LCD baklight. If i shine a torch into the screen i can see the faint outline of the OS, Win XP. The switch is magnetic, so if i run a magnet along the top of the keyboard the display comes on for a couple of seconds.

I have opened the laptop and looked at the motherboard, the switch is built into the boad and is un-connectable. I have also tried changing the windows power settings i.e. when lid is closed to nothing, uninstalled the video card driver, to no avail. The BIOS setting are fairly meagre and don't have any options in relation to power settings.

Is there any way from Windows to prevent the laptop going into sleep mode once the lid is closed. The option on the power settings seems ideal but it doesn't seem to function properly.

Any advice is much appreciated.
