Solved: Is is normal for a CPU to jump between x6 and x11 multiplier
I'm running the software CPU-Z to watch my CPU as i've just installed a new 1, intel duo 2 processor e7500 2.9ghz from a 1.8ghz.
while installing some programs It seemed to jump between 1.6Ghz x6 multiplier and 2.9Ghz x11 Multiplier, It varyed abit around 1.59 and 1.61 but has never been seen anywhere around 1.61-2.89Ghz
Is this normal for a processor. As this processor was not setup when i reseaved it i was a bit skeptical of it working at full speed.

Hi again!

Yes, that's normal. Modern processors will underclock when they are idle or doing light work. They are designed this way so they can save power and produce less heat (and noise from the CPU fan) when they are not fully utilized.
