Plugged in but no power
My girlfriend has a Gateway M-6846 laptop with vista 64-bit and has had several bad issues lately. The biggest problem right now is one that we had thought we had fixed once before and the problem came back.
When she has it plugged into the wall, sometimes it will read as plugged in but not charging. After jiggling it a bit it usually recognizes it and starts charging. After a couple months of this, the laptop got to the point where it did not recognize even being plugged in at all and was getting no power from the outlet. The battery would die because it was the only power no matter how the cord was jiggled around. We figured it was a faulty AC adapter and replaced it. Problem solved.
Well, it has been about a month now since replacing that and it is happening all over again. It worked absolutely perfect for the whole time and today it has stopped working all together. Is it possible that the jack is messed up on the computer and is frying the AC adapters slowly? If we buy another AC adapter will it also become fried in time?

Has anybody had a similar experience?

Probably. It's most likely the DC jack on the laptop. Pretty common problem actually - repairs are normally between $100 and $300 depending on model, location and repair shop. If you google, there are several places that will do depot repair (ship it to them) - sometimes that's a cheaper option.
For an old computer, it's not always worth it though...
