Laptop CPU upgrade - any suggestions??
Looking to upgrade my toshiba equium L300-146.
Atm its pretty crap and have decided on going for a couple more GB of RAM.
Also looking to upgrade the CPU and have been looking at the intel core 2 duo processors for a while now.
For some reason their mobile core 2's seem to be less powerful and more expensive than the desktop models.
Could anyone suggest a good CPU from this range and perhaps explain why the mobile processors are more expensive??

many thanks
Alex

have you worked on laptops before
Will the motherboard support an upgraded PC
Is there space and support for the more memory you are suggesting

Upgrades to laptops are rare

What programs are you have problems with are they memory or CPU Intensive

Did you have the 1GB memory
tge MAX you can have is 2GB

I would save your money and look to replace.

Have a look at startups
Start - RUN (search box on vista) - msconfig
look at the startup tabs and reduce the programs running there
use this site (about half way down a zip file) to compare the startups and what they do

Changing a laptop cpu is not as straight forward as a desktop.
Laptops have their constraints depending on the maker
Looking at the specs for your laptop I can see why it is running slow and I think a lot of that has to do with Vista,
Before you start pulling the laptop apart consider upgrading the OS to Win 7, it is not a resource hog like vista and runs a lot quicker with less ram than Vista

i've checked and it has a spare RAM slot so adding another DDR2 RAM card shouldnt be a problem.
The upgrades are really so i can run sonar 8 better. it is quite a CPU intensive program and atm the CPU is fairly stretched with only a few tracks

It currently has a pentium dual core at 1.73.
I might just try out the RAM upgrade first and see if this helps at all but i will probably end up replacing the CPU aswell

The system requirements for Sonar are pretty steep. Your laptop just isn't up to the task. You're really not going to see any significant improvement with the minimal upgrade you might be able to make with the processor.
