LOL. OK. Let's try doing this the way I think it should have been done from the beginning, when it was still in the case.

Download Testdisk. Get the latest version for your Windows version.

Unzip it if it's zipped and start testdisk (not photorec, which someone else started when I told them testdisk for reasons I will never understand).

In the first window, just highlight Create and press Enter.

I don't know. How many drives do you have and what size are they? Do you know the models?

Chances are that sda is your system drive, but you need to be SURE!

OK. If you are sure you have the right one, choose the Intel partition.

On the next page, choose Analyze and let it search.

It shouldn't take too long but it will probably search the whole drive to figure out where the partition used to be.

So far, it looks really good. It saw the partition and noted that it was invalid. It even had the file system right. It was NTFS on that drive, right?

So if all that was right, I think we're golden.

The good thing about this thing is that even though you have to guess sometimes, and may make a mistake, your data is not touched. You can go back and try again.

Some people get mad because their files don't come flying out and give up. But that is not what this program does. It tries to recover the drive so that it is accessible, not recover files.

Looks like I have time to make coffee.

Kewl. I think people ought to consider how much they save by not having Geek Squad come over. A few bucks won't kill them, you know?

If this works the way we want, when we are done, you will open Computer, and your drive will be there waiting for you.
