controller error
Does anyone know what might cause the Event ID 11, Disk Error in a 64-bit version of Windows 7? The error description indicates "the driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk5\DR6" I ran the chkdsk utility but it didn't detect any error on my hard drive, does anyone have any suggestions? I have a WD SATA II internal hard drive

I would run a hard drive dianostic in the system software (bios). What machine do you have?

You can also run WD's own diagnostics by downloading from here: http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...&sid=3&lang=en

Does the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic test support 64-bit Windows 7? If it does, would you recommend that I run the quick or extended test?

It should work, generally if it works with Vista then it should work with Windows 7 since it almost the same thing. If it doesn't then you can also create the bootable floppy or CD to run the diagnostics. The Quick tests don't really tell you much, run the full Extended test.

I downloaded and ran the wd data lifeguard diagnostic tool but I couldn't run any of the tests because the top window that is supposed to list the physical drives in my system was blank so I was unable to select a drive to run a test on. The program installed correctly so what went wrong?

When you go to run it, do not doubleclick on teh WD icon but right click and select Run As Administrator.

Or try the bootable CD version.
