Solved: Busted Router
I'm asking this for someone I game with.

Her router is some Verizon FiOS router. Awhile ago her father apparently busted the internal antenna somehow. Now when she does anything like online gaming or using VOIP programs (eg, Ventrilo, etc.) she gets a ton of lag occasionally. Her ping in Ventrilo would skyrocket to over 1000ms and she would start lagging like crazy in games yet her signal level would be high.

I told her to have her parents get a new router from Verizon since they're free, but I guess her parents have that pretty low on their priority list.

What is the problem in a more technical sense? Is there any temporary solutions until she can get a new router?

Sorry for the vague details, I don't remember a whole lot of what happened.

There's nothing to stop her from calling Verizon Tech Support on her own.

Even though she's underage?

I would like to know the problem with the router as well.

Busted is busted. If I were her, I'd make the call when my parents were home so they could verify if necessary.
A busted antenna isn't going to radiate the signal at the proper strength.

CPNI laws prohibit account info to be given out, or changes to be made to the account holder by unauthorized users.

She should be able to call for tech support without issue, and depending on how they handle replacing the router she might be able to do it.

Alright, I'll tell her to call their tech support. Thanks.
