Exclamation Solved: Computer 'forgets' letters when typing. URGENT HELP NEEDED!
I recently bought an Acer TimelineX 14'' laptop, operating system Windows 7, intel icore i5 processor 430M, 4 GB memory.

I am accounting the problem that the keyboard/computer seems to 'forget' letters when I type. This also goes for space, backspace, enter, punctuation, etc. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with how fast I type. Sometimes it even occurs when I just write one single letter. When I write sentences it occurs with a frequenzy of 1-2 letters for every word I type.

Any ideas as to what might be the problem and how to fix it? It's driving me nuts and I have my written exams in just two weeks!

As a test try the PC in SafeMode and see if still happens

How to Start in Safemode

1. Restart your computer.
2. Before the windows logo you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode..

Thank you for your answer. However that is just a temporary way around it, if it works, which I can't rely on for my exams. It doesn't solve the problem?

Ah okay. Does it require for me to make a backup of my files first?

It seemed to work fine in safe mode. And strangely, after having put it back in normal mode, typing works fine. But I don't know if it might occur again? I've only noticed the problem the last few days, I bought the laptop friday last week. I might not have noticed the problem earlier than that because I thought I just had to get used to the keyboard, and that it was me who didn't hit the keys properly.

Several people say that it might be a virus? But that seems strange. I have never encountered virus before in my life, on any of the laptops or computers I've had, and I haven't read any weird mails or clicked on any strange links or run any suspicious programs or the likes.

Possibly an infection.......you can post your Hijack log .......the thing is the keyboard is working OK so it is something conflicting that is running in Normal mode

You could post your HijackThis log and see if anything shows up

Download HijackThis to your desktop
  • Double click on HJTSetup.exe on your Desktop
  • Click Run and Install
  • It will install to Program files by default
  • it will launch Hijack This
  • Click on "scan system and save a logfile" usually in notepad
  • Copy and Paste the logfile in your next post
  • Using Ctrl+A to copy All and Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

I called Acer support. they said that the problem probably occured due to a wrong startup of Lounge Manager when I installed the computer, downloaded a lot of updates and installed my own programmes, and that by putting it into safe mod and then back to normal, everything was sort of 'resetup/restarted/reprogrammed', so that everything now is able to work together?

Yep, I hope so. If it occurs again I'll return to this thread and try the HijackThis as you suggested.
Thank you so much, you saved my day and my exams!

dude if it works fine in safe mode that means the problem is not with the keyboard..jus update the keyboard drivers and touch pad drivers by first uninstalling the previous ones...
