No POST beeps
Well, I just reinstalled windows a couple of weeks ago, and was enjoying my fast computer and now I can't even start it up!
Everything seemed to be working normally, until one day I came home and I could not boot the computer. The power lights all came on, but there was no video. So I tried to reboot and there was no beep at all.

I opened up the case, reseated both of my ram modules, reseated the video card, and cleaned the motherboard with some compressed air. I was then able to boot up and run the computer fine. I played games for several hours with no problems. But then after I shut it down it would not POST again. I tried taking out both ram modules, even re seating them in the extra 2 slots that I was not using, taking out the video card, and even the hard drive, and nothing has worked.

I read something about CMOS, so I took out the CMOS battery tonight, but it I am not very hopeful. I looked at the motherboard and didn't see any obviously bad capacitors. I guess the power supply could be bad, but all the drives and lights come on.
I'm not really sure what to do next. I suppose I could take it to a shop, if it's worth paying them to look at it. They might charge me almost as much as a new motherboard to look at it. lol Then again, I don't think I would want to bother just replacing the outdated AM2 motherboard.

You should be able to fix this problem by doing a repair install of XP; you'll find instructions here:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

and here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

Read through those instructions, find your XP CD, and set the CMOS to boot from the optical drive. Follow the instructions carefully, and with a little luck and patience, I expect you'll have this problem solved fairly quickly.

Repair installs aren't supposed to cause problems; they ONLY replace missing or corrupted startup files, but if you haven't backed up your system recently, there is a slight chance of losing data. Read the pages I recommended, and pay close attention to the instructions and warnings on the michaelstevenstech website.

Good luck; let us know how this turns out.
