Hey, I'm new to techsupport.

Anyway, I rebooted my computer because I had a virus, so everything got reset. I sorted some of the problems out, but now my speakers aren't working at all! The light turns on but no sound comes out.

I read a few other topics but none of them seemed to help, I use windows XP and dell speakers, if you need more information please post here. I really need them to start working..

Go to control panel> sounds and audio devices and see if it is on "mute".

I already did that, but everything is Grey (I cant click it)

You may not have reinstalled the audio drivers.
Right click on "My computer" in start menu and left click "manage" - on left side of page you will see "device mgr" -left click and scroll down to "sound,video and game controllers."
See if you have any yellow marks-if you do, right click and go to "properties"
Click - update drivers .
Reboot and follow same procedure and see if yellow marks are gone and if you have sound.
You may have to go to your computer website and download drivers.

Tried that before, and tried it again, still hasn't worked.

On the "sounds and audio page" where you checked to see if it was on "mute", click "audio."
You may have it set on an audio device that is not installed.
If that does not work, you may have to do a full system restore-Back up anything you may need.
You can also a a partial restore (non-destructive) that will save the info on the C drive.

The problem occurred after I re-booted my computer due to a virus. I don't think re-booting it again will work.

I just needed to install some new audio software. I googled it and checked if the thing I downloaded was safe.
