CD/DVD Drive not recognizing Disc
When I attempt to access my DVD/CD drive (E), placing a CD or DVD in the drive, I get the following message: "E:\ not accessible Incorrect Function" This is an old (2005) Windows XP computer. I haven't a clue on how to get it functional.

It's pretty amazing for a drive to even last this long these days. It may be dead. It amy be easier and a more efficient use of time to just replace it.

Did this begin suddenly or start with gradual problems?

What burning software do you use/have installed and can you still burn a disk?

Does the problem occur with all optical disks, or just a certain type or ones that you made?

If you're getting that error just trying to read a disc, then yeah, the drive is probably dead. A new DVD "super-all-in-one" writer should run about $20-$25; it's probably not worth the time to mess with trying to make it work vs. simply replacing it.

Playing a disc works fine, it's just when I insert a blank disc and then try to copy something to it.

Hi Elvandil, It's been a while in weeks, but only occurred a few times because I make data discs so infrequently. I happens only on blank discs.
