Sapphire Video Card Issue
My computer has been working well and I use it as an HTPC. I have a SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD4870 2G GDDR5 PCI-E video card that I had hooked up to my TV via HDMI. I have watched countless movies on it and haven't had any issues. The computer is just a few weeks old and I have over 1,300 movies on it. I was working on the computer and walked away from it for a few minutes. I was logged in to the computer via a VNC (TeamViewer) and I came back to the computer and noticed that I was logged off. I went downstairs to check the computer and the first thing I noticed that all of the external hard drives were off.

There was no picture on the monitor. The front light was on (on the power button) but the computer wasn't running. I shut the power off on the back, unplugged the external hard drives and powered it back on. The video card was now making an extremely loud noise (normally runs very quiet) and the red LED (D1601: Over Temp Protection) was on and solid. The computer would not boot up to any BIOS screen or any picture at all on the monitor. I tried plugging in a normal VGA monitor and no go. I shut it down and pulled out the video card and plugged into the on board port for HDMI (also tried VGA) and booted up again. Everything seemed to power on but I still have no picture.

Try resetting the Bios by disconnecting the power lead then removing the coin shaped silver battery for a few minutes.
There may also be a jumper you should move temporarily, if you have a manual for the motherboard it will explain what to do.

hm
i tried it. The LED light is off on the video card but it still boots up really loud (the video card) and I don't get any kind of picture. I also waited a considerable time and tried to login via a VNC (which is automatically set to run when the computer starts) but it didn't find the computer so I know the computer isn't loading up. How do I know if the motherboard is bad?

Try removing the Video card, reset the Bios again then connect to the on-board video output, is there a display now ?

If not can you try another Video card ?
