new and confused
hi everyone:

I recently registered after having used this site extensively for info by poring through the forums, but I just got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium which is unfamiliar to me so I signed up to ask a couple of specific questions. And looking things up on my own is a lot of fun but has not proven to be a successful approach for me.

In the last week or so my laptop is having problems on an increasingly frequent basis. My Event Viewer is littered with errors and warnings in many areas (hardware, software, system).

I'm not sure where to start or what to ask first. I don't want to become a pain by posting lots of questions all over the forums and become instantly annoying by doing so, but I don't want to just ignore things either.

My current specs on the newer machine:
---------------
Computer: vostro 1500
Processor: C2D T7500 2.20GHz,
Operating System: Vista Home Premium 32bit
Memory: 2G RAM
HD: 160G HD File System: NTFS
DVD -+RW Optical Drive
Display: WSXGA+ TrueLife,
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
Dell Wireless and Bluetooth pre-installed

Installed software/devices:
ZA Free 7.1.248.000 (latest)
AVG Free 7.5.519 updated 4/12/08
Firefox 2.0.0.23
AIM 6.0
Processes Explorer 11.12
Photoshop 6.0
Adobe Reader 8.0
Epson RX580 (unused/soon to be uninstalled)

mishte,

Welcome to TSG. I'm sure that another user can assist you in a different forum as this forum is for introductions only.

Welcome, mishte.

I'm sure the Windows Vista forum would be a good place to start with questions.

It takes a little while to get used to Vista, mostly because of a the new shell enhancements, but the kernel is pretty much the same.

thanks!
Thanks for the replies!

I know this is an intro forum, but it is daunting to try and figure out where to start when one is clueless <g>.

My tech concerns were included in a general sense to serve as an explanation of why I landed here and was introducing myself, not in hopes of specific answers to them.

Heck, I certainly want to be clear that I'm mindful of the rules (in a humble, fledgling sort of way).

Thank you both for your welcoming words of wisdom! I'm heading off to Vista first.

Much appreciated!
