Greetings from Cape Town South Africa
Hi all, I just spotted this intro section and I thought I'd say hello.

I'm 67 and lived most of my life in Cape Town, South Africa (nicknamed affectionately "the Mother City" because it was t he first city! By profession I'm a pharmacist; worked for 32 years at a teaching hospital. For various reasons, I took retirement when I was 61 and have never regretted it or looked back! The big thing is to keep your mind thinking & active. I do a cryptic xword every day. Tear my hair out when things go wrong with the PC, but enjoy solving the problem/s.

I needed a new HDD, installed it myself, then formatted it and initialized it. You learn from your mistakes. I'm sure as hell not a Bill Gates, but I try to keep up with technology.

I hope to become friends with all of you.

Hello!
Greetings from the Deep South of the U.S. I'm in New Orleans. I joined this forum just a week ago. I'm not much of a computer geek. I'm mainly a zine publisher. I currently have 15 websites online devoted to zines in various genres. I spend a lot of time on the computer and online but I'm not extremely savy about computers. I've owned computers since the early '80s but I could never do programming. Desktop publishing and the websites are my thing as well as I'm a freelance writer.
I've seen several films and travel documentaries filmed in South Africa and I've read some histories on it. Definitely a beautiful country.

Thanks Zinester
Thanks Zinester for the welcome. Yes, SA is a very beautiful country and I hope you don't beleve all the weird & negative things that are said in the media about it. I hope you come visit these golden shores one day; I would be proud to show you around. I too have been into computers since the early 80's. I started on the Sinclair Spectrum which had an awesome overwhelming memory of 48K <grin> I only got going on PCs in 1992 - before Windows! Ran a 486 running (very well) under DOS-5. A 3½ inch floppy disk held an entire program.... And talking of memory, I've seen the first ad. (that *I've* seen anyway) for a memory stick (flash drive) stated in TB (TeraBytes). I have no idea what the next gradation is!

Best regards

Larry (MoreProblems)

RE: Greetings from Cape Town South Africa
No, I don't necessarily trust anything the media says. I have to check things out for myself. I've just been reading a book about a couple of guys who traveled across South Africa. Very interesting, such diversity of scenery.
I've been real busy trying to locate all the new software I need for my publishing and writing endeavors. I found almost everything in freeware. I don't like spending monies on software if I can find what I need in freeware.
I'm also searching out a good place to relocate. I want somewhere away from civilization as much as possible. If I can find the right place and survive without some of the trappings of civilization that would be a good place for me. The main thing for me is to be able to acquire supplies and to be connected to things via computer.
