Dotty (& Doc)- I should have replied to Dotty's remarks sooner but will now. I expect this post (like Dotty's) should be moved to an alternate forum and will trust the moderators to assist with that.
First, my apology for a statement that was "publically" presented and was judgemental. I should have thought it out more. My intent, though, truly was not to offend anyone rather to inform the new user that he may need to be more aggressive and seek people out for his answers in spite of the flurry of welcomes he was seeing. That said, the statement in my post was and remains my opinion.
Although new, I had spent a number of hours investigating the site and threads the same day I had posted my own issue, had some interesting input, but was not getting clear or direct answers that I knew existed. I waited, hoping that some of the super tech-studs on here would jump in too and know what I was dealing with. This is, after all, the Tech Support Guy website. I got some helpful feedback (including from BlackMirror

but the big guns didn't seem to show. (The problem is stil unsolved.)
So, I tracked a good number of the higher post members to see where and what they had posted & who knew what so I might make a direct inquiry. My comment was based on my evaluation and interpretation of some dissapointing patterns I saw. I could just keep my mouth shut or mention it. The first option conspires to abide in a lie, the later is politically unpopular but creates a potential for improvement and growth. The guy seemed like he really needed help so I chose polititcally incorrect. The comment was not an accusation, was not directed at anyone personally (including you), and was truthful...my truth.
While I would love to give us all credit for being altruistic saints, I am not a Polyana and understand that we often do self-serving things; especially if there seems to be no harm to another. Recognition of human nature and the fact that one person's truth may not be another's is part of why the Freedom of Speech is clearly identified and supposed to be protected. The US's 5th Ammendment parallels what I believe you have called Article 10 for the UK. The point is, OUR collectively wise forefathers recognized that we would all need to have something in place that acknowleged our right to speak our mind's without being punished...sanctioned, shamed, for it.
All that aside, Dotty, my post was not aimed at you and game-playing although it seems you did choose to take it personally. In fact, it wasn't aimed at anyone although I expect that there are, in fact, some people who may do game posts as they associate some kind of pride with how big the number is that follows their name. The 2 simplistic games I did play are barely a stretch of anyone's imagination and can be played with fast, meaningless posts...especially when the rules seem to what suits the moment and belong only to the people the current players want to acknowlege.
Playing the games actually
was a strategy to increase my "ranking". The site is set up to not allow new member's profile's to be visible (??) until a certain amount of activity so that's what I was doing. I wanted to reach that point of visibility to faccilitate working with the tech-savvy people so they could get a better idea of the hardware/ software I had and what I was doing with it. It was completely self-serving, although, I'd hoped to have some fun while "playing" which was also poorly received and ignored as much as possible. Interesting that this is the "social" side of the site.
Enough of my ranting. I do wish all who are reading this well.
