yep, this sure is a great site and that's down to ALL of the members here whether it's pc related or just making friends, your comment is unwarranted, and I quote

"i'm new too. aside from people who seem more focused on building thier status (total # of posts) there's some very knowlegable & helpful people here"

it's hardly a good start to criticise any members for their posts, we aren't all pc geniuses and most of us originally came here for help , we enjoy the social side which is beneficial to all who want to chat and make friends or venture into Civ Debate for more serious issues, I see you too have found the Thread Games and are already participating.

I hope you enjoy them, I'm sure you aren't playing to build up your posts just as we aren't.

Dotty (& Doc)- I should have replied to Dotty's remarks sooner but will now. I expect this post (like Dotty's) should be moved to an alternate forum and will trust the moderators to assist with that.

First, my apology for a statement that was "publically" presented and was judgemental. I should have thought it out more. My intent, though, truly was not to offend anyone rather to inform the new user that he may need to be more aggressive and seek people out for his answers in spite of the flurry of welcomes he was seeing. That said, the statement in my post was and remains my opinion.

Although new, I had spent a number of hours investigating the site and threads the same day I had posted my own issue, had some interesting input, but was not getting clear or direct answers that I knew existed. I waited, hoping that some of the super tech-studs on here would jump in too and know what I was dealing with. This is, after all, the Tech Support Guy website. I got some helpful feedback (including from BlackMirror but the big guns didn't seem to show. (The problem is stil unsolved.)

So, I tracked a good number of the higher post members to see where and what they had posted & who knew what so I might make a direct inquiry. My comment was based on my evaluation and interpretation of some dissapointing patterns I saw. I could just keep my mouth shut or mention it. The first option conspires to abide in a lie, the later is politically unpopular but creates a potential for improvement and growth. The guy seemed like he really needed help so I chose polititcally incorrect. The comment was not an accusation, was not directed at anyone personally (including you), and was truthful...my truth.

While I would love to give us all credit for being altruistic saints, I am not a Polyana and understand that we often do self-serving things; especially if there seems to be no harm to another. Recognition of human nature and the fact that one person's truth may not be another's is part of why the Freedom of Speech is clearly identified and supposed to be protected. The US's 5th Ammendment parallels what I believe you have called Article 10 for the UK. The point is, OUR collectively wise forefathers recognized that we would all need to have something in place that acknowleged our right to speak our mind's without being punished...sanctioned, shamed, for it.

All that aside, Dotty, my post was not aimed at you and game-playing although it seems you did choose to take it personally. In fact, it wasn't aimed at anyone although I expect that there are, in fact, some people who may do game posts as they associate some kind of pride with how big the number is that follows their name. The 2 simplistic games I did play are barely a stretch of anyone's imagination and can be played with fast, meaningless posts...especially when the rules seem to what suits the moment and belong only to the people the current players want to acknowlege.

Playing the games actually was a strategy to increase my "ranking". The site is set up to not allow new member's profile's to be visible (??) until a certain amount of activity so that's what I was doing. I wanted to reach that point of visibility to faccilitate working with the tech-savvy people so they could get a better idea of the hardware/ software I had and what I was doing with it. It was completely self-serving, although, I'd hoped to have some fun while "playing" which was also poorly received and ignored as much as possible. Interesting that this is the "social" side of the site.

Enough of my ranting. I do wish all who are reading this well.

I didn't for one minute take your comments personally, I was merely pointing out the fact that no forum is bigger than it's members and everyone here has something to contribute.

You are still assuming some of the people who play the games are doing so to increase their post count and therefore you're still being judgemental when in fact, if you read the members posts, you will find most of them are friends who simply enjoy playing against others and have been doing so for quite some time.

To you the games may seem meaningless and you're entitled to your opinion however, you have admitted you played the games to increase your post count and probably that's the end of your contribution, however, we will still be around simply because we enjoy the friendships we have made, whether you think it's all too simplistic is of no concern to me, you may have just posted to find an answer to your question and therefore have no wish to become actively involved in these forums whereas many members have been around for years and that's not all down to pc related issues.

Perhaps you'd like to read through some of my posts and indeed others where you may just find we contribute in many of the forums here and not just the thread games.

Dotty- You have a lot of energy on this game thing. The focus you've given this is a broad extrapolation of what I initially said. I realize people do more on here than play those games. I might have continued to "play", at least at some level, if I experienced the players as open to my presence rather than completely ignoring me and my questions. That seemed rather unfriendly & even "cliquey" by at least my standards so, no, I don't intend to "contribute" there anymore.

As far as an easy way to create "rank", you're absolutely right; I truly may be the only guy out of the hundreds or thousands here thats used a "game" for site rank. Or I may just be the only one who's pointed it out or the 1st who's admitted it. That's not judgemental; its honest and, at this point, simply stating what's become obvious to me whether or not you choose to acknowlege it.

I'll continue to support (as I learn) and participate but mostly on the tech and discussion based forums where I hope to not be frozen out for politely speaking my mind. You're welcome to the last word on this one D.

Be well. Tami

I'm sorry you've felt ignored and I understand your point about unanswered questions, all I can say is that most of the games aren't taken too seriously, some of us guys cheat if we are stuck for an answer so if you ask a long drawn out question then sometimes you wont get a reply simply because we play fast with as few words as possible exchanged!

You say you found it unfriendly, I don't think that's the case, if you say Hi to any member then they will almost certainly respond to you, from experience we've had new players who haven't been who they appeared to be if you get my meaning and so some of us are wary until we get to know you just as if you met someone on the street you wouldn't immediately strike up a conversation with them, I guess that's how it can be seen here.

I hope you find your niché and enjoy your stay.
