Talking Linux Install HELP!
Hello Techguys:

I tried to install Linux 7.3 on a 2 gig, 166 Packard Bell. Everything was going good until 2 minutes before the second cd was to finish. I got a message about a bug and to copy it to a floppy to report it. I never got the install going again and cannot get the first cd to restart the install. When booting from the hard drive I get "OS load in progress..."but nothing happens. How do I start over? I will learn linux if it drives me crazy but I have to get it loaded first.

Thanks, Dyna

Linux 7.3 is a bit vague;could you tell us what distribution of Linux it is,eg. Redhat,Mandrake etc?
That's an old machine you're trying to install a (apparently) new version of linux on.Even if you got Linux installed, XWindows would be slow unless you have a lot of ram on that comp(at least 64MB at least to run KDE or Gnome). You could install it without X to learn Linux at the command line (CLI) but that's no fun and Linux should be fun-at least at the start.
If you have enough ram,you could load an older version of Linux and get X working or if you have a newer comp you can safely set up a dual-boot system.

Linux Install
lynch:

I kept rebooting until the install started over. I am using Red Hat 7.3 (vahalla). If it fails again, what linux package do you recommend? Thanks for your speedy help

See how the latest try goes.I'll really be surprised if it works to your satisfaction, but you never know
The best of the older versions as far as ease of use and install is,hands down,Mandrake 7.1.If you have a local bookstore, they may have a book with a publisher's edition included for a reasonable price.Redhat 6.2 is a decent older version, too.
As far as the newest releases go,everybody is raving about Mandrake 9.0(a copy of which is on my desk yet to be installed )
