Not able to connect to Linux (samba) server from Windows after Win2k DC upgrade!!!
Hi everyone, I have spent the entire day troubleshooting this issue and think I have narrowed it down to there possibly being an issue with Win2k, Samba, and passwords.

I upgraded our windows NT DCs to Win2k today and everything seems to be working okay so far, except that no user's home directories are getting mapped. The home directories sit on a Linux box running Samba. We never had any issues with NT or even Win2k professional clients, but as soon as we went with Win2k DCs, problems!!

When you try to map to the Samba server, you get an error stating that it is an invalid username or password and then the "connect as" box pops up for you to enter a user name and password to connect to the share.

What do we need to do to get this resolved, all of your help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!!

Got it figured out yet?
Dont use samba but had a few thoughts:
1.Did NT4 use kerberos?I thought it started with w2k,so maybe it needs to be enabled in samba.
2.Did the comp names change after the w2k upgrade?Perhaps smb needs the host.allow or host.deny directories need to be updated.
Like I said,I dont use samba(yet)but it just sounds like some configuration files need updating.
Sorry if that's no help.

You might verify that all machines are using the same type of password -- either encrypted or non-encrypted. Windoze is notorious for changing the default style of password with each release (Win95, Win98, etc.) so you can't depend on your smb.conf file remaining valid when you change distributions. Try changing samba to use the style of password that you were NOT using before, and see if that helps.
