resizing an XP partition
Hi I have an HP Pavilion which came with XP preinstalled-it uses NTFS. I have no recovery cd because it has a partition-based sys recovery.<br>2 questions: 1. Can I use the partition based sys to change from NTFS to Fat 32 so I can install either SuSE 8.1 or RH 8.0 and have a dual boot sys, and 2. will I lose all my data if I do? Thanx jim

im not positive but i believe you can just convert the file system to FAT32 if you want. its in the dos prompt though.

the command would look something like:
convert c: /FS:FAT32

im not sure if it would really work, ill have to check... gimme a few mins

EDIT: just tried it on a 250MB partition and it will only convert to NTFS not from it. i would suggest Partition Magic. it always worked for me.

Smile NTFS Partition
Hi pastorjim2,

I have a Sharp laptop running windows xp pro, i wanted to install SuSe Linux 8.00. Not being a linux Guru, i opted to use Partition magic 7 for sorting out the partitions as i had my hardrive partitioned with NTFS. I used partition magic 7 to create a Linux compatable partition and a Linux swap partition. the SuSe linux install program found these and installed onto these partitions. I opted to use the LiLo boot manager as opposed to Boot magic which comes with PM7.
Using PM7 made the installation easy for me with no hickups.

Hope this helps!

Kind Regards

Khayman
