Angry RH8 Networking woes with cable modem
I've used MDK from 7.0-9.0, lycoris build 46, windows from 95-xp, but this is my first try at redhat. I've heard all the great netowrking stuff about it, and i needed it to run on an older pc for httpd / mail / ftp / servers and a router for my cable connection.

I installed everything-- nice install btw-- as a server, picked out extra options to include x-windows and whatnot, and booted successfully.

I then went throught the network configurator and everything, selected ethernet connection for my cable network, selected dhcp (all a routine to MDK and lycoris), and went with it. Didn't work. no surprise, so i went back and tried reconfiguring, i picked out my DNS servers from my lycoris workstation that was using the cable connection (and is right now). Still nothing! The configs look identical, and nothing, and i changed and changed them, and nothing. I dunno, maybe MDK spoiled me, but I would like to get this to work. I need this dedicated server. I'm using Charter Pipeline.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

well, it seems no one here helped me, but it doesn't matter. I said forget redhat and installed mandrake9. the cable internet connection worked on boot-up (take that), and in a couple hours i had a web/mail/ftp/proxy server running great! its headless now, and i'm using webmin to administrate the pc.

Long live Mandrake, King of the Linux distros!!!
