"no hd lists" on Mandrake 8.0 install
Hello, everyone. I hope someone can help me. I am trying to install Linux on a friend's Compaq Armada 7800, which is an approved computer (I checked). My problem is that every time I try to partition the hard drive, an error message comes up that says "no hdlists found". Then it takes me back to the partition window. I don't know how to fix this...I have tried everything I know.

Can someone tell me what this means, and how I can successfully install Linux on this computer? Please respond ASAP...

Thanks, Qweezle

Is thisthe computer?
How are you doing the partitioning? If you're using the installer's partitioning tool it may be seeing one of those ILM non-dos partitions. You may want to view the partitions with fdisk from a win9x bootdisk. If there are any partitions there, delete them and try setup again.(Unless you are trying a dual-boot,of course)
How old is the Compaq? The older ones have a non-dos partition that holds the IML bios.
What Linux distro and version are you using?

Linux comes up with that message when there are partitions already created that don't end on cylinder boundaries the way linux would put them. The only fix I've found for this is to add a linux partition with something like ranish, and install to that, or as lynch said, remove them all and start fresh.
