Cool NTFS & Redhat ???
Hey Guys,

Does anybody know how Redhat 8.0 and NTFS get on with a dual boot system with XP or
2000?
I would like to be able to access and write to the NTFS partition in Redhat.
Is it possible???
Thanks in advance...

I think it shoudl be OK

I ran Redhat 7.3 and XP using a GRUB managed dual boot....absolutely no problems...

i'd expect win2000 to be rock solid too.

Redhat will be able to read and write to NTFS filesystem no problem...it's just a matter of tweaking out RedHat to be able to do that......

hope that helps a bit.

Zach.

Redhat does'nt include support for NTFS , claiming copyright concerns. The same with mp3 support.Just about all the other distibutions support NTFS out of the box.
This may be the tweaking zachary was talking about:you have to install the ntfs module to get read only support.Write support is still in the experimental stages of development and I wouldnt trust any of my valuable files to something that wasnt released as stable.
There are quite a few links on that page that will cover more about the Linux NTFS Project.

Hi there. I have win2k and RH 8.0 dual boot that works well. I formatted the drive and created 1 partition leaving the rest unpartitioned. I then installed win2k on the first partition using ntfs. Then I installed RH 8.0 on the unpartitioned space and let the install auto-partition the remaining drive space. It is working very well.
Hope this helps.

Yes they will coexist nicely on a dual-boot system, but Redhat doesnt read or write to ntfs partitions out of the box. They just cant see each other.
