Can't add 2nd OS
For some reason I can't seem to be able to get another os on my XP home box. I have partitioned the disk and created room for a new os. When I reboot even with the new os disk in my cd drive it just boots into xp, tried it with bios setting, boot from cd and still boots into xp.
If I make the new partition active I get nothing at boot up other than an error message because there is no os on the new partition.
what am I doing wrong?

In the bios, disable booting for everything but the cdrom, and make sure other boot device is disabled. Then it'll boot from the cdrom.

Well for starters it would help if we knew what OS you're trying to dual boot with. Saying you've got Win XP and got another OS doesn't help much when you consider there are a multiple number of choices.

What little i know about Suse won't help you w/ your boot problem. Your question would be best answered in hte Unix/Linux forum. Good luck.

Hi,pastorjim
If you set it to boot from cdrom 1st and it wont,I'd go back and check those bios settings.
Try deleting the Linux partitions and let the installer use the unallocated free space to install SuSE.If possible let it format as reiserfs-PM 8 only does ext3,which is ok but reiserfs is better IMHO The Linux partition doesnt need to be active.

Hi Lynch, THANX!! again for your help.
I feel like a real dolt...in the BIOS set-up I was hilighting the cd boot option but not moving it to the top of the line so of course it wouldn't boot from cd.
I did unpartition the Linux space and let YaST2 do the work for me in reiserfs. Now I have SuSE installed along with XP
Now to get my cable modem configured. Right now it is connected to a USB port so I can't get it to configure but I will connect it to my ethernet and that should do the trick, but that is for another day! Peace Jim
