What flavour
What flavour linux would you run on a Compaq Presario 1220 laptop, (200Mhz)

I installed the latest Mandrake and it's too slow, any suggestions on a lightweight linux OS that will run.

All I need it for is to program on and maybe run apache and mysql for testing

Suggestions?

Just about any distro would work.That's an older model laptop, isnt it?
Here a link page fromLinux on Laptops that list various compaq models that people have had success installing Linux on.One thing:the link for your model is in french.
Might be worth checking out for similiar models,though.

I know it runs, it's just SOOOO slugish, worse that windows 98 se was on that machine, I'm tempted to find a win 98 disk to put it back on!

Try choosing a different window manager like blackbox or icewm at the login screen.KDE or Gnome will take a lot of memory.
